A collection of key official and semi-official documents that illustrates the history of the relations between the United States government and American Indians. This source provides many of the essential documents which marked the creation and the many changes in federal Indian policy. Prucha provides a short explanatory introduction to each document. In many cases only samples of documents such as treaties are provided and for most of the documents only excerpts are included. The book contains a selected bibliography and index.
